Michael Joins John Phillips WEDNESDAY Night 11-23!

Radio's John Phillips
UPDATE: Michael's appearance has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 23rd @ 8pm PST

Our own Michael Higby will be hanging in studio with KABC's John Phillips on the talkshow host's weeknight show, Thursday, November 17th at 8:00 p.m.

John Phillips is the troublemaking host of "The John Phillips Show" on Talk Radio 790 KABC. Whether he is in trouble himself, (like for hatching a plan to bus bums out of Los Angeles) or making trouble for others (like exposing the deep craziness of the Octomom before anyone else) he’s always unrestrained, tactless, informative, and entertaining. There is nothing John loves more or does better than tell the uncomfortable truth about all the most fascinating— and sometimes shocking--- stories in the news. There are a lot of self-important people who are just begging to be satirized, and we are all exposed to a lot of smugly sanctimonious mass media. John sees it as his God-given mission to tear these people down!

Until they decided to give John his own show, making him the youngest major-market Talk Show host in the country, John was sports anchor and executive producer for "McIntyre in the Morning”, producer for "The Al Rantel Show", news writer for the KNX Morning News with Frank Mottek and Gail Eichenthal, and a guest host on virtually every show ever cancelled by KABC.

After earning a magna cum laude B.A. in Political Science from Cal State Fullerton and a MA in American Politics from Claremont Graduate University, John learned that he had no desire to produce meaningful scholarly research in political science, but was truly meant to be a piano player in the Bordello of Politics, a Talk Radio Host. As he told his graduate advisor, “The world has enough academics… I belong on the Radio.”

Michael will join John to cover whatever the news of the day is and knowing both John and Michael, there will be no sacred cows. Or chickens. Free range or otherwise.

Listen at 8:00 p.m. PST on KABC AM 790, listen live on the web or on your mobile device.

David Hernandez is Endorsed by Legend Pat Boone

Pat Boone
Many of our listeners know our co-host David Hernandez is running for Congress. Today, David announced he has received the endorsement of legendary entertainer Pat Boone.

According to Billboard, Boone was the second biggest charting artist of the late 1950s, behind only Elvis Presley but ahead of Ricky Nelson and The Platters, and was ranked at No. 9—behind The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney but ahead of artists such as Aretha Franklin and The Beach Boys—in its listing of the Top 100 Top 40 Artists 1955-1995.  Boone still holds the Billboard record for spending 220 consecutive weeks on the charts with more than one song. In addition to his career as a performer, Boone has had significant business interests with investments in sports and broadcasting.

Boone wrote to Hernandez saying "You're also permitted by this letter to use my name and face as an endorsement of your candidacy -- if you're willing to make that sacrifice, I'm for you!"

September 17th: Can Red Light Tickets Come Back to Haunt You?

Back in July of this year, the City of Los Angeles terminated it's red light camera program.  Despite that, nearly 160,000 tickets remain on the books, those which drivers have been told they need not pay, but leaving them technically in legal limbo.

Our guest this Saturday evening to discuss the issue is attorney Sherman Ellison.  Ellison recently testified before the Los Angeles City Council on the controversial red light photo program and is a regular contributor to numerous radio, television and print media outlets. He is widely considered the pre-eminent legal authority on traffic ticket defense in California.

Attorney
Sherman Ellison
Ellison is a California trial attorney whose practice is almost exclusively traffic ticket defense. He was sworn in to practice law in 1970 and practices law in all United States District Courts within California, Hawaii and Oregon; the United States Supreme Court as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Eighth Circuit. Ellison attended UCLA as an undergraduate before entering the United States Marine Corp. After being accepted to dental school Sherman did a career about-face and made the decision to pursue a career in law, earning an L.L.B. and a J.D. In 1969.

September 10th: We Will Never Forget

Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.

While here in Los Angeles we were far from the physical devastation it was no doubt a day that impacted us and changed our lives forever. Though some of us have settled into a modicum of complacency, there are those who still live with 9-11 everyday, with the pain that despite best efforts, most of us truly don't understand the impact.

Saturday night, we'll reflect on the events of September 11th, with no expectation of resolution, closure or any of those fancy words the media uses. Forgetting the platitudes, we move forward with life, with the resolve that the more we can love, the better off we will all be.

We'll be joined by Carrie Konjoyan, organizer of commeoration events at the Sherman Oaks Fire Station, as well as others. We will also take your calls at 323-203-0815.

Please tune in at LATalkRadio at 8pm PDT.

Vote for Paul Howard!

Paul Howard
Our past guest, Paul Howard, is in the running  for a walk-on role on the hit AMC series, Mad Men. The network has teamed up with Banana Republic to sponsor a contest where the entrant who earns the most votes garners a guest spot on the show set in the world of advertising hacks in the oh so hip 1960s. Howard hopes to score enough of your clicks to win.

We spoke with Paul Saturday evening and he reports he is now at #17 in the rankings. Paul needs to get into the top 10 and he'll have a good shot at getting on the show. Please visit the AMC website; you can vote once per day each day between now and next Friday.

And tune in to LiveLASaturdayNight to hear about Paul's progress!

September 3: NoHo Loses A Bird; Rappin' with Rip

Photo from
nohoartsdistrict.com
Local North Hollywood visual artist Stephen Schubert created the “Phoenix Rising” statue and it was installed in 2003 at the northern entrance of the NoHo Arts District at the intersection of Tujunga/Lankershim/Burbank.

Recently, the portion of the work that included a bird attached to a chair, symbolizing the community as a phoenix rising from the ashes, disappeared, an act of thievery and vandalism. Tonight we'll have the story as to what happened and where the bird is now.

Rip Taylor
Also scheduled to appear is our regular guest Rip Taylor, letting it rip as to what the legendary comedian and actor is up to right now.

For those of you who follow your horoscopes, we'll have Sherye Woodley, astrologer to the stars.

And finally to round it out, a discussion of City Attorney Carmen Trutanich's illegal billboards.

August 27th: Go Mad with Paul Howard!

Paul Howard

Listen to the show on-demand

Ask actor Paul Howard's parents, and they will tell you Paul was destined to be a performer. As a child he grabbed his toy guitar and performed Beatles songs for them on a makeshift stage; as a teenager he gained local notoriety for his uncanny ability to emulate Michael Jackson down to the smallest nuances of his performance; and when he ultimately left his Sacramento home to attend the University of California, Irvine as a drama major, his fate was sealed.

With a extensive list of film, television and stage appearances and a modeling career under his belt, Howard is now endeavouring for a walk-on role on the hit AMC series, Mad Men.  The network has teamed up with Banana Republic to sponsor a contest where the entrant who earns the most votes garners a guest spot on the show set in the world of advertising hacks in the oh so hip 1960s. Howard hopes to score enough of your clicks to win.

Join Paul as our guest Saturday night, August 27th along with David and Frank (Michael will be on assignment), at 8pm PDT on latalkradio.com.
